Why do we build our bikes the way we do? Very simple: rather than rely on heavy marketing, we prefer the product to do the talking. That’s why the 931 E-Tourer Pinion is free of visual gimmicks and is fitted with a top-quality Go SwissDrive whisper-quiet hub motor. It sets the standard for innovation, clever details and effective implementation of design concepts. Built with Reynolds 931 stainless-steel tubing, it’s rock solid and thoroughly dependable.

The frame-mounted Pinion gearing system is an exceptional piece of engineering, made – like almost all elements of the bike – in Germany, and contributes to making the bike almost maintenance-free. Three versions are available, with 9, 12, or 18 gears, allowing the bike to be built to specifically suit its intended use.

The drive belt, available as an option instead of the standard chain, is almost maintenance-free and exceptionally durable. The Go SwissDrive hub motor and torque sensor are thoroughly protected, in a rock-solid aluminium housing. The system incorporates an integrated controller that allows the torque sensor to function maintenance-free, contactlessly, and with no need for external sensors. The motor is brushless, and features low freewheeling resistance.

The frame’s sliding drop-outs allow 650B and 700C wheels to be used interchangeably, to give either off-road cushioning or reduced rolling resistance on-road, without affecting the wheelbase. This means that the bike’s handling remain unchanged when switching wheels. The frame geometry, with its sloping top tube, provides plenty of leg-room and allows the bike to be set up in a number of ways, to give riding postures ranging from sportily stretched out to more comfortably upright.
The visual consistency engendered by its combination of titanium fork, stainless-steel rack and low-riders and titanium components produces a bike of exceptional elegance.

SPECIFICATIONS

The frame has been designed specifically for the Pinion gearing system and is built with Reynolds 931 stainless-steel; the titanium fork is a perfect match in terms of both handling and aesthetics, and Tubus stainless-steel rack and low-riders complete the package. The adjustable drop-outs make it easy to fit either 650B or 700C wheels.

We feel that the bike looks best with titanium components, but you might prefer the Syntace option or the Tune Components package, available in a range of anodised colours.

The bike is supplied fitted with a SON Edelux II headlamp with matching rear light, plus a SON hub dynamo and top-quality SKS-Bluemels mudguards.

The GO SwissDrive rear wheel motor provides powerful acceleration, high elasticity in response to terrain variation, substantial power reserves and quiet operation. With a nominal power rating of up to 500W (peak: approx. 1000W) und 40Nm of torque, it sets the standard for direct-drive motors. In addition, the power is applied where it works best: directly to the rear wheel hub. This means there is no increased wear on the drivetrain, it combines perfectly with the Pinion system, and you can scarcely hear it: at 18-25dB, it’s as quiet as a whisper. Another benefit is the energy recovery capability: on downhill sections, the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System, familiar from Formula 1 motor racing) converts your kinetic energy into electricity with which to recharge the batteries and reduces wear and tear on the bike’s brakes. The system’s maximum range is up to 150km.
