“Lots of bikes are designed in a balanced way. But at Rennstahl the relationship between the various factors approaches perfection.”

We have a fascinating mission: to continue working towards building the best bike in the world. Our Reiserad Pinion is a genuine expedition machine: extremely solid, exceptionally reliable – thanks to its built-in Pinion gear system. Like almost all the bike’s components, the Pinion is made in Germany, and represents a significant moment in engineering history. The Reiserad is available with several versions of the Pinion: the top-end 18-speed, and 9- and 12-speed options. This means the bike can be fine-tuned to suit its anticipated use.
Also virtually maintenance-free and exceptionally durable, a drive-belt system can be provided as an alternative to the traditional chain. With its slider dropouts, the frame can be fitted with 650B and 700C wheels, so that without affecting circumference (with a knock-on effect on handling), a selection can be made between tyres that give a lower rolling resistance and tyres with emphasis on strength and off-road capability. The frame geometry, with its steeply sloping top tube, allows extra flexibility in terms of rider posture – which can be adjusted between a sportier, stretched-out set-up and a more comfortable upright position. (It also aids step-through mounting and dismounting, for those who are so inclined.) And on an aesthetic note, the matching aluminium finish of the gears and lights adds a finishing touch to the bike’s inherent elegance.
The frame is specially-designed for the Pinion gear system and is constructed with air-hardened Reynolds 853 steel. Before painting, it is given an undercoat applied using cathodic electro deposition, which makes it exceptionally corrosion-resistant.
The matching steel fork has strong vibration-absorbing properties, which makes for a comfortable ride. The 44mm head tube ensures excellent front-end strength, and the adjustable rear dropouts allow a choice between 650B and 700C wheels.
In addition to the standard model featuring Syntace components, a Titanium package is available, with Falkenjagd parts. A Tune Components package can also be ordered, in a range of anodised colours. Other options include a SON Edelux II headlamp with SON hub dynamo, a Tubus rack and low-riders, and SMS-Bluemels mudguards.
